Into Action

The Mount Tamalpais School
Strategic Plan

The MTS Habits of Excellence

The Mount Tamalpais School educational program must develop in students the skillsets and habits they need to see all experiences, connections, and moments in life as an opportunity to learn. To achieve this, we make the following commitments to our community as we inspire our graduates to put what they learn into action.

Committed
Exploration

We commit to seeking out new experiences and working past initial challenges to broaden and enrich one’s life through the pursuit of learning.

Critical
Reasoning

We commit to valuing and seeking multiple inputs and considering all facets of a topic to understand, analyze, and effect change.

Conscientious Citizenship

We commit to recognizing our responsibility to society and actively engaging to make our communities stronger, healthier, and happier.

Collective Wellness
and Belonging

We commit to actively nourishing the mental, physical, and emotional needs that allow individuals and the collective to thrive.

A Letter from Andrew

Andrew Davis
Head of School

I was drawn to Mount Tamalpais School both as a school leader and parent because of the reverence for a strong education, coupled with the deep joy that fills every classroom. Learning at MTS has always been an active pursuit in which students and teachers collaborate in the learning process with excitement, passion, and rigor.

MTS students have the potential to be the leaders of tomorrow’s organizations, governments, and communities. In fact, many of our alumni are changemakers in communities across the US. As the past two years have shown, the challenges of the future are monumental. And yet none of these challenges have a chance of being addressed—let alone solved—unless today’s schools broaden the definition of a learned person from one who is an active learner to one who puts what they learn into action. It is now our responsibility to ensure that education inspires action.

Translating learning into action is a lifelong process and the Professional Community at MTS is committed to instilling in our students the habits of committed exploration, critical reasoning, conscientious citizenship, and collective wellness and belonging so that they can solve the complex problems of their changing world. These four habits serve as the foundation of this strategic plan, MTS Into Action.

While the challenges of the future might be daunting, the habits we have identified to tackle these challenges inspire me. I hope you, too, find inspiration in these habits and the priorities we have set for the next five years. Please join me in the focused and aligned work of MTS Into Action.
